WHAT IF YOU’RE NOT BORED—JUST QUIET?

“𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗱?”

I heard that question on a podcast recently. One person said yes, they’d been bored just the other day. Then they realized they weren’t actually bored—they were relaxed. That distinction stayed with me.

Maybe we sometimes call it boredom when what we’re really experiencing is the absence of noise and stimulation. In other words: quiet.

And quiet was exactly what I talked about at the end of the Wantrepreneur to Entrepreneur podcast, when I was asked for the one piece of advice I’d leave listeners with.

My answer was to stop. Not forever. Just for a minute or two. Take a breath. Step away from what you’re doing—and from what you’re trying so hard to solve. Let some of the outside noise drop so the noise inside can quiet down too.

Because when your mind is crowded, everything can feel urgent, complicated, or equally important. Stopping creates enough space to think with greater clarity and more expansive thinking. I do this myself, especially when I’m overwhelmed by too many thoughts that don’t seem to fit into any pattern I can recognize. The harder I try to force an answer, the less useful my thinking becomes. So I stop trying to solve it. I sit. I breathe. I let my mind wander. And inevitably, something useful surfaces.

Sometimes the next step isn’t missing. It’s simply buried under all the activity, urgency, and noise. That’s why stopping can be an important part of getting unstuck. Quiet gives you a chance to notice what’s really happening, see a possibility you couldn’t see before, or hear the answer you already knew but couldn’t access.

Maybe boredom isn’t always something to escape. Maybe sometimes it’s what quiet feels like when we finally stop filling every second. And maybe that quiet is where getting unstuck begins.
