SPLIT VS. STALLED: SAME PAUSE. DIFFERENT EXIT.

Not moving doesn’t always mean not ready. It can mean pulled in two directions—or not clear enough to go. The hesitation looks the same; the causes don’t.

In my work with the Stuck Spectrum™, it most often shows up as Split or Stalled. If you don’t know which you’re in, it’s hard to get out. The fixes are different.

🔹SPLIT (conflicting pulls) Torn between two real directions (role A vs. role B, client work vs. IP, build vs. buy). Both matter. It’s about identity and trade-offs.

🔹STALLED (momentum fizzled) You were moving; now you’re not. What mattered doesn’t land the same, and the pivot isn’t clear (yet). It’s about alignment and energy, not effort.

How To Tell Them Apart:

🔹Pulled by who you were and who you’re becoming → Split

🔹Energy flat; meaning mismatched → Stalled

How To Begin to Address:

If you’re Split (conflicting pulls):

🔹 Pick a “now” lane: Choose the lane that serves the next 60–90 days; park the other.

🔹 Name the fear: What do you worry you’ll lose? Add one guardrail to protect it.

🔹 Check in monthly for 3 months: Are you less pulled? Does this lane feel more like you? Adjust the guardrail (not the lane) unless the answers stay “no.”

If you’re Stalled (momentum fizzled):

🔹 Zoom out: Name what feels true now—what still matters, what doesn’t.

🔹 Energize & prune: List 3 energizers and 3 drains. Add one; remove one.

🔹 Momentum rule (action > analysis): Pick one energizer and complete one concrete step today.
