When people feel stuck, they often say, “I’m just not ready yet” or “I’m just not sure.”
But readiness is a moving target. It usually shows up after you start taking steps. Which feels like a bit of a conundrum.
In my work with people using the Stuck Spectrum™, I see this show up in two common forms:
🔹Stalled: waiting for perfect timing, confidence, or conditions
🔹Spinning: continuing to explore options, but never actually choosing
Both are versions of waiting for readiness, which is really about waiting for proof before you act. (You can read more about the Stuck Spectrum here: https://get-unstuck-hq.webflow.io/the-stuck-spectrum
But willingness is different. Because it’s not about certainty —it’s about embracing openness: to test, to try, to learn your way forward. Willingness starts without proof. It’s moving into a possible what’s next even when — and especially when — you don’t feel ready.
That’s the paradox of readiness: it follows action, not the other way around.
Because the real difference between being ready and being willing is the shift from thinking about it to stepping into it.
