AHA ≠ ARRIVAL

Sometimes the fix seems clear. You know what’s wrong. You even know what you want instead. You can practically see it — the next version of your role, your work, your life. It’s right there… until it’s not. Because even when the solution makes sense, or the future feels close enough to touch, the shift doesn’t always happen right away. And that delay? That gap between clarity and traction? That’s where a lot of people get stuck.

You start thinking, “I can see it. Why can’t I make it happen?" And it feels like quicksand: The harder you try to force it, the more frustrating it becomes.

Behavioral science has a name for this: goal gradient theory. We’re wired to feel more motivated as we get closer to the finish line. But if you can’t feel that progress, if it still seems out of reach, your brain hits the brakes. Even if you’re headed in the right direction.

It’s not that you’re off track. It’s that you’re trying to leap the whole distance in one go. Getting unstuck rarely works like that. It happens step by step, with each small win pulling you forward. That’s where a good coach comes in — not to hand you the steps, but to ask the right questions so you can name them… and figure out what’ll help you follow through.

Sometimes the difference between staying stuck and making real movement isn’t knowing where you want to go, it’s having the right support to get yourself there.
